| Health
and Safety Management…Ingrained in the Project Navigator Culture |
Work
can only be considered successful if it is executed within a culture
and framework of safe practices.
Project Navigator has a “safety-first culture.” This is
not a slogan. We have a major role in all our projects, on our clients’
behalf, of promoting a “behavioral based safety system.”
This occurs everyday on all our projects and starts with PNL running
and participating in the “toolbox meeting.”
Project Navigator has an unblemished workplace heath and safety record.
We promote a culture where near misses have to reported. From this
information we drive home work-team, site specific procedures.
The following provides some H&S metrics on our major projects:
• Operating Industries Inc. (OII) Superfund
Site
- 2,000,000 man-hours
with zero lost time incidents
• Waste Disposal Inc. Superfund Site
- 28,000 man-hours
(and ongoing) with zero lost time incidents
• MAR Services Site
- 10,000 man-hours
with zero lost time incidents
• TexTin Superfund Site
- 100,000 man-hours
with zero lost time incidents
At all these sites we have the stop work authority from the clients.
The most notable example of PNL exercising proactive H&S judgment
occurred at OII in 1999 when PNL stopped all site work for 1 week,
as cap construction work was commencing on a 2:1 slope, 20 acre area
over a major freeway. Major operational changes occurred as a result
of the stand-down. We later reported to the clients and received unanimous
endorsement for our proactive actions. |
